Abstract

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to determine whether emotional dysregulation mediates the relationship between Instagram use and emotional intelligence with psychopathology. The present study design was descriptive-correlational and the statistical population was young Iranian users, 302 of whom were selected through convenience sampling and were given the Stress, Depression, Anxiety, Pittsburgh Sleep Questionnaire, Instagram Usage Questionnaire, Bradbury-Graves's Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire, and Emotional Regulation Difficulty Questionnaire. The data were analyzed using the AMOS-24 software and structural equation modeling. The results of this study showed that there is a significant relationship between the use of Instagram, emotional intelligence, emotional dysregulation, and psychopathology (p<0.05). Through issues with emotion regulation, emotional intelligence had a negative impact on sleep issues (β = -0.11, p < 0.01) and psychological distress (β = -0.24, p < 0.01), according to bootstrap analyses. Through issues with emotion regulation, Instagram use also had a positive impact on psychological distress (β = 0.19, p < 0.05) and sleep issues (β = 0.11, p < 0.05). As a result, the use of appropriate therapeutic and educational interventions in this field can lead to the reduction of psychopathology.
